I've Been Remiss

Well, it's been several months since I've blogged anything. I've been busy, yeah right, maybe just lazy then. I'm thinking that if I've got nothing to say then I should at least review movies I've seen recently. Not because my opinion matters so much, just so I remember that I've actually seen them. Nothing worse than going to the video store, looking at a movie, and having to ask your wife if you've seen it before. Well, I guess it could be worse if you actually rented it and then realized it five minutes in.

Anyway, I'm going to do quick reviews of the last few movies I've seen.

Mean Creek - A slow moving but well acted "Stand By Me" type. A little darker though. ***

The Pacifier - A guilty pleasure. Vin Diesel can't act but somehow made me laugh occasionally, which is hard for a comedy to do these days. ***

Troy - A big budget, historically inspired tale. Enjoyable but not super. *** 1/2

Alexander - Oliver Stone has definitely run out of gas. I was appalled than the director that made JFK, Natural Born Killers and The Doors couldn't scrape together a screenplay or anything about this legendary figure in history. I was screaming "Oh my god, no!" at the TV on more than one occasion. I'm not so sure I blame the Greeks for not letting him film there. It probably wasn't the implied bisexuality of the main character that worried them... they probably read the script. *

The Notebook - A very touching, tear jerker. I cried. 'Nuff said. ****

The Wedding Date - A witty little movie. I couldn't stop noticing Debra Messings nose, however. Just doesn't seem to fit on her face... ***

Constantine - Hmmm..This is the movie I was told that I had seen. Can't remember much about it though. I've got vague images in my head but they might be from The Matrix. No wait, I remember now, I did see it. I just missed the end, cuz I fell asleep, I think. **

Hitch - Not bad for a Wil Smith movie. The guy from King of Queens steals every scene he's in. ***

White Noise - Michael Keaton? Is he still making movies? Apparently not. *

The Aviator - An interesting movie about an interesting individual. The world need more rich guys like Howard Hughes. Not all encompassing of the man's life but worth the watch. *** 1/2

National Treasure - A surprisingly good Bruckheimer movie. Sure there's lots of explosions, that's a given, but there was more to this one. Maybe the Di Vinci Code has made me love conspiracies involving secret societies or maybe I wasn't expecting too much but I quite enjoyed the ride. ****
